What is Barbershop?

Barbershop is an American style of singing that is performed á capella; meaning that the songs are performed without any accompaniment. Barbershop is a four-part harmony song-style. The bass- baritone- and tenor part harmonize with the lead part that sings the melody most of the time. Tenors are often singing in a falsetto voice slightly over the leadpart and the basses are singning the lowest tones of the chord. Baritones are singing the part that totally fills up the chord; meaning that the baritone sometimes sings over the lead part and sometimes below the lead part.

I a member of a barbershop chorus called Stockholm Chord Masters (I have made a pause now since I have sung barbershop for almost ten years). Stockholm Chord Masters are one of the best choruses in the Nordic area and won the barbershopcontest this year. SCM sings anytime, anywhere and anything (almost that is). Our repertoire is wide and include barbershop songs, male choir arrangement and well-known Swedish and English songs.

Stockholm Chord Masters is a member of The Society of Nordic Barbershop Singers SNOBS where I have worked as secretary. SNOBS is affiliated to "The Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America, which spells SPEBSQSA.

Please have a look at the homepage of Stockholm Chord Masters for further information!
