Model railway layout design

These sample track plans aren't meant as complete layout designs, but rather as something to give you ideas for completing your own designs.
Emphasis is on "smaller" layouts.
Matters for thought, before starting to design your layout.
By choosing the right kind of prototype for your layout you can get better use from the space you've got.
A twice as large layout is only 100% more, but even a very small layout is an infinite number of percent more than no layout at all!

Why narrow gauge?

It's quite often possible (if with some compromises) to use track and mechanisms from a smaller scale as a basis for narrow gauge in a larger scale, if some care is taken.
