After breakfast, we travelled some 50 km to Höör. The room was in the basement, but there was plenty of room for us all, in spite of almost 60 ferrets beeing entered.
I calmed my ferrets by taking them outdoors first. That meant they got dirty in the ears. When cleaning the ears, I found that Natasja had a small wound in her ear. Not very good, as I suspected ear mites.
To my relief, the medical examination showed that there were no mites, so the wound probably happened some other way. I sort of suspect some of the other ferret of having caused it. We'll se about that later...
We had been to shows before, so both I and the ferrets knew how to behave. Mostly they were very tired, and didn't make much of a fuss at any time.
All of them behaved well with the judges. Alison even got "easy to handle" on the report card! (She was also noted as having a hooked nose, some tartar on her teeth.)
None of them wanted to perform in the ferret racing, when the object is to run through a tube as quickly as possible. They didn't even want to pass through it at all!
The agility race, with three obstacles was lots of
problems for Alison and Natasja, but they managed
in less than the maximum 3 minutes.
Most people had harnesses and leads on their
ferrets and tempted them with candy of different
sorts. I took the opposite approach, and had no
harness on and just showed them toys.
Carmen and Rustan did very well with that method.
Since there was only eight in their class, an award of some kind seemed likely, but I was totally surprised to find Natasja on second place and Alison on third, but with several defects, like "dirty ears" and "light nose" for Natasja and "hooked nose" for Alison. Not many points at all for Carmen.
But what surprised me more was the first place for Rustan, as the competition there was greater (twice as many males as females hade been entered in the show, no idea why that was so, but males seems to be slightly more popular in Skåne).
The last event was the one where all first placers where paraded in front of the judges, carried by someone else's owner (during the main event they are brought to the judges by functionaries, so the judges won't know who they belong to).
They wanted to look closer at two females, so then I was certain that one of those'd become BIS. But no: They'd already decided on Rustan, so the closer look was to decide the BIM (Best in show, Motsatt kön/Opposite sex).
Instead of travelling back to Landskrona, I and my parents stayed in Höör until the next day, when it was time for the yearly membership meeting, in the same place as the show.
