Today we participated in a fair for pets in central Stockholm. I brought Rustan, since he's got lots of stamina (and there was to be a ferret race), Carmen, because she's a nice girl but doesn't get out much, and Roxane, which has been nice enough to the children next door I thought she'd stand up to the rigors of a half day visit to a fair.

I haven't brought Roxane out for long trips much, and it showed: She was terrified at first and didn't want to be anywhere but inside my shirt or in the transport cage.

Carmen was kind of shy too, but not to that extent.

Both Carmen and Roxane made passable good results at the ferret racing, but none of them lasted beyond the first heat. Rustan won the first heat and the semifinal heat, but had had enough of running in tubes when it came to finals.

But the best thing of all was that as time went by, Roxane became much less shy and started to look out my shirt and after a couple of hours wanted to get out and say hello to all the children. Not afraid at all!

The ferrets were popular with the children, as they could handle them a lot, something which apparently weren't permitted with all the other animals present (not that anyone would want to pet a bee, for example, and lifting a horse to cuddle it is a bit impractical, even though it's the smallest in Sweden).

All in all, a success, but we didn't recruit a lot of new members on the spot.
